Top Three Played Out 80s Songs
This whole 80s nostalgia thing is getting a bit out of hand people. There are lots of other 80s songs out there you can use to open your concert with or end your television show with, why pick a song that has been played to death both on the radio and on television? Here is a list of the top three played out 80s songs that need to be officially retired.
“Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey
This power ballad has officially bee played out when it is being sung by 18 year olds on American Idol and is being fake rock-guitared in Rock Band. Don’t get me wrong, I like the song, I like the song structure and you can’t really mess with that chorus now can you, but really there comes a point when the song almost loses all personal value when it is so ubiquitous. “Don’t Stop Believin’” has reached that point.
“Forever Young” by Alphaville
It’s kinda cute when this song is played at an actual high school graduation but at this point the song is seen more as a cheesy, emotional 80s ballad that people can ironically dance with their partner too and belt out the chorus than a song that one can actually be moved by. When Jay-Z is sampling your song it is time to put it to rest.
“You Shook Me All Night Long” by AC/DC
Another song that is OK in the right context, and that context being limited to a sleezy dive bar at 2am bar-close where nobody cares about people hearing them belt out the chorus to this cliché 80s song or maybe at the same time while riding in your car with your mustang exhaust screaming. Not only is it played out but it’s not even the best AC/DC song, it’s actually one of their worst. But to each his own, I guess.
